The 10-Minute Night Routine That Improves Sleep
Share
Better sleep doesn’t start when your head hits the pillow—it starts with how you wind down.
Most nights don’t end cleanly. You go from:
- finishing something
- scrolling
- thinking about tomorrow
…straight into trying to sleep.
And your mind doesn’t just turn off because you want it to. That’s why a short reset before bed makes such a difference.
Not a long routine.
Not anything complicated.
Just a few minutes to signal that the day is done.
1. Reset One Small Space
Before you sit down for the night, take a few minutes to reset something simple.
- clear the counter
- put a few things away
- straighten the space you’ll wake up to
It doesn’t need to be perfect. But waking up to a space that feels in order changes how your morning starts—and how your mind settles at night.
2. Lower the Input
Your brain needs a transition. Going from constant input straight to sleep keeps your system “on.” For a few minutes, reduce the noise:
- dim the lights
- turn off the TV
- put your phone down or away
Even a short break from stimulation helps your body shift.
3. Get Things Out of Your Head
A lot of what keeps you awake isn’t what you’re doing—it’s what you’re thinking about. Take a minute to:
- jot down what’s on your mind
- note anything you don’t want to forget tomorrow
You’re not solving it. You’re just giving it somewhere to go.
4. Do Something Repetitive and Simple
This is where your system starts to settle. Something small and familiar:
- making tea
- washing your face
- folding something simple
Nothing stimulating. Nothing productive. Just something that tells your body: we’re winding down
5. Go to Bed Before You Feel Overtired
This is the part most people miss. If you wait until you’re exhausted, your body often feels wired instead of calm. Go to bed when you feel the first signs of being tired. That’s when sleep comes easier.
The Shift
Sleep doesn’t improve because you try harder. It improves when you:
- create a little space
- reduce input
- and let your body transition naturally
You don’t need a long routine. You just need a few minutes that tell your system the day is over.
